Healthy Food and Fitness Locator Tool for Central Ohio This web-based tool helps communities, families and schools access locations for food and fitness in Franklin County. It is sortable by zip code and 5 key content areas. Check it out! Developed in partnership with Ohio PTA, this newly revised guide gives individuals and parent groups tools to begin student wellness projects in schools. It also contains tips to help parents raise healthy children through nutrition and physical activity at home. Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge Game On! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge is a year-long program that challenges America’s youth, their families and schools to incorporate healthy food choices and physical activity into their daily lives. Action for Healthy Kids, in partnership with the National Football League, developed ReCharge! Energizing After-school™, the first nationally distributed after-school program that fully integrates nutrition and physical activity through teamwork-based strategies for youth in grades 3-6. ReCharge! focuses on four concepts – "Energy In" (nutrition), "Energy Out" (physical activity), Teamwork and Goal-Setting. Since its introduction in fall 2005, ReCharge! has been distributed to over 8,000 after-school programs across the country, reaching over half a million students. This presentation explains the role of Ohio Action for Healthy Kids in the ongoing battle against childhood obesity. CDC’s Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT): Healthy Youth! The Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT) can help school districts, schools, and others conduct a clear, complete, and consistent analysis of health education curricula based on the National Health Education Standards and CDC’s Characteristics of Effective Health Education Curricula. Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool Now Available School Health Index Available Online The SHI is a self-assessment and planning tool that schools can use to improve their health and safety policies and programs. Childhood Obesity Assessment Calculator Shape Up America! designed this program to calculate the Body Mass Index (BMI) for patients between the ages of 2 and 20. Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) CATCH is an evidence-based Coordinated School Health Program designed to promote physical activity and healthy food choices, and prevent tobacco use in elementary school-aged children. Tuscarawas Wellness for Schools This site was developed by the Tuscarawas County Health Department through collaborations with Carroll and Harrison Counties. There is valuable information on health & wellness for parents, teachers and other school personnel. A great webpage that lists resources linked to the Healthy Schools Campaign. Road of Life: Cancer Prevention for Kids Road of Life: Cancer Prevention for Kids offers curriculums geared for elementary school-aged programs. GoGirlGo! combines physical activity with an educational intervention that focuses on reducing and preventing health-risk behaviors. This is a collection of hands-on nutrition education activities for parents to use with their school-age children. This 36-page activity booklet is in a reproducible format for classroom and community use. Parent Handouts: Activities at Home and Schools Healthy Eating and Drinking Choices in School— Ohio Dental Association Enroll Your School for the FREE Wellness Activation Kit The National Dairy Council, American Dairy Association Mideast and the National Football League have teamed up to create a FREE School Wellness Activation Kit. The wellness tools in the kit are designed to help schools make positive changes in student eating and exercise habits and further their commitment to school wellness goals. The BlueJackets@School Program, presented by the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets in partnership with OhioHealth is available to educators across Ohio and features classroom-ready lesson plans, adaptable overtime activities, the popular Book Jackets reading incentive program presented by Univar, and clear curriculum connection in the areas of language, science, social studies, and health/nutrition/physical education. Peaceful Playgrounds focuses on introducing children and school staff to the many choices of activities available on playgrounds and field areas.
