In 2005, the OAFHK steering committee developed the regional zone structure seen below. Regional zones are grassroot structures that meet in their local communities to engage schools to address prevention of obesity and the link to academic performance. At the local level, each zone customizes the best way to share with schools some of the best practices in nutrition and physical activity that promote healthy eating and active lifestyles. Some zone team activities include hosting continuing education workshops and conferences for a variety of target audiences, mini-grant opportunities, and some have established email and other communication networks.
